Square collection of beautiful photos
Artist's Comments
Another shot from the same location as 'Twisted', also taken through perspex/plexi glass of some sort.
I find this one to be quite interesting, because the textures you see are actually coming from the perspex in the foreground, aswell as the wall which was about a foot behind it - yet they somehow manage to work together as a solid space in the photo. There was residue remains from stickers all over the perspex, aswell as areas covered in dirty finger prints and smears. The posters on the wall were old, dirty and torn. The way the afternoon sun fused through the perspex created some interesting light play and effects.... it was a great opportunity for a photo really. I particularly like the way some areas of the photo are hard and clear, whilst some (like the A on 'CHA') are soft and dreamlike due to the smears and finger prints on the perspex. It's coherent, and then suddenly distant. Like a phone call dropping in and out of range. All in all I'm really very happy with this shot. I used to take a lot of photographs that concentrated more on light and shadow, but have since neglected it after taking up the flat urban type shots. I think this photograph fuses the two though, and I'd love to try some more. And much love goes to =FuriousLee, had it not been for his recent work I don't think I would have looked twice or even considered the possibilities a transparent surface with subtle textures could bring to a work. Thanks Mel! |
