This photograph was taken on a day out with
I stopped walking to take a photo and he kept on, and when I looked back up to follow I saw a definate photo. I was unhappy with the original when I saw it on the computer, so experimented with a few different crops, grayscale, colours and contrast.... but still just wasn't happy with it. So today, while reading about Holga cameras, I had the idea of photoshopping to get this image to look like the unique photographs that are produced by these experimental cameras. I was going to put this up as a photomanipulation, but the category description didn't really seem to fit the picture.... plus I didn't do any major changes. The work included- a square crop, grayscale then back to RGB to fiddle with the colour balance and get a nice sepia I was happy with, soft spotlight on the middle of the photo to get that cool vignetting look, darkened and pushed contrasts, and added the border. It's still more of a photograph than a digital work, but if anyone is unhappy with it being in the photography category than please tell me. This photograph is a tribute to the unique, original and very cool work of I'd really like to buy a Holga camera, something to experiment and have some fun with... they come out with some really awesome effects. But anyway - very nice shot. I like the forced perspective that makes your eye look from left to right and to the figure. Then when your eye sweeps back left you can focus on all the interesting graffiti
Thanks for your comment too, it does really lead your eyes around now that I think about it. Glad you like!
wow, i checked out that link... i now feel thoroughly unsatisfied with 35mm (thanks a lot! j/k) lol
the vignetting looks nice! i used to be afraid of it.. now i might have to play with it
personally, i don't "edit" my exposures a whole lot, but that's just me. this is an example of photoshop done right. somewhere there should be a line as to where "photography" ends and "darkroom" begins (everything you've done fits under darkroom manipulation, imo).. hrmm.. i can't really make that decision since i'm not aware of the amount of editing, but, i find it's rather subtle.. it's fine here
very nice piece.
I read about heaps of really cool things you can do with those cameras. Like, because they're relatively cheap, you can chuck it in a vip lock bag and take photos underwater with it, and not have to worry about ruining an expensive camera.... They are also pretty cheaply made (and they're proud of it!) the lens is plastic which seems to achieve some really cool soft effects... and the camera isn't assembled too well, so light gets in and streaks the photos. And you can expose a film as many times as you like before winding it on.... I think that could come out with some really interesting photos. I guess the best thing about them is the spontaneousness.... you never really know what's going to happen because they're technically so crap! I want
Anyway, thanks for your comment. I'm glad you like this piece.... I was really interesting in seeing what everyone would think of it
